The dealer deals two cards to each player, face down. These are your "hole" cards that you will combine with three additional cards from the "community" cards that will be dealt after the first round of betting.
Example:
Without looking at their cards, the two players to the left of the dealer place their initial bets, called the big and small blinds -- big and small based on the amount and blind because the players have not looked at their cards.
The player closest to the dealer puts down the first bet, which is also called the small blind. The next player to the dealer's left (and the left of the first bidder), puts in double the small blind, which is called the big blind.
All players look at their cards after the small and big blinds have been put down.
The third player to the dealers left puts in his or her bet, which must be equal to or greater than the big blind, unless the player decides to fold. Betting choices are as follows:
- Call (or check)
- Raise
- All In
- Fold
The dealer deals the first three of five community cards.
First, the dealer puts the top card from the deck face down on the table. This is the "burn" card. The top card is burned (not played) in case any player happened to see the card during dealing.
Then, the dealer deals three cards, face up.
Example:
Betting begins again, with the player to the dealer's immediate left. Choices again are as follows:
- Call (or check)
- Raise
- All In
- Fold
The dealer burns the top card in the deck and then deals a fourth community card, face up on the table.
Example:
The last round of betting begins again, with the player to the dealer's immediate left. Choices are the same as other rounds of betting:
- Call (or check)
- Raise
- All In
- Fold
The dealer burns the top card in the deck deals the fifth and final community card, face up on the table.
Example:
Players now bet on their hand. They must use their two hole cards, and can combine them with a minimum of three community cards for their final hand.
The last round of betting begins again, with the player to the dealer's immediate left. Choices are the same as other rounds of betting:
- Call (or check)
- Raise
- All In
- Fold
Betting continues until all players have called or folded.
Players reveal their hands starting with the player who bet first (or the one closest to his/her left who is still in the game). The best poker hand wins; the winner is awarded all chips.
